WASHINGTON, D.C. — December 31, 2025 — Following a landmark year for youth financial literacy, Whitney Ramirez, CEO of Diapers 2 Deposits, is reflecting on the impact of the 2025 Annual Conference on Financial Education held this past April in New Orleans. Ramirez, a Department of Defense contractor, shared her expertise at the Institute for Financial Literacy's 2025 Annual Conference on Financial Education, which focuses on innovative approaches to teaching financial literacy.
With a career dedicated to empowering communities through financial education, Ramirez has developed a unique and highly effective teaching strategy called Financial Field Trips. This hands-on approach extends financial literacy beyond the classroom, giving students real-world exposure to how finance, business, and decision-making work in their day-to-day lives.
“I’m excited to share strategies that make financial literacy engaging, relatable, and impactful for students of all ages,” said Ramirez. “Financial Field Trips allow students to connect classroom concepts to real-life applications, empowering them to make informed decisions about their futures.”
As program director for Diapers 2 Deposits, Ramirez has worked with students across various settings, including schools, community organizations, and nonprofit partnerships, helping young people understand personal finance, entrepreneurship, and wealth-building principles. Her innovative programs combine exploration, interactive lessons, and experiential learning to ensure students retain key financial concepts.
The Financial Field Trips model has proven effective in helping students connect mathematics to personal finance. These trips have included visits to auto dealerships to discuss loans and interest rates, real estate tours to learn about mortgages, and stops at media outlets to understand financial decision-making in business environments.
Ramirez’s session provided educators and community leaders with actionable strategies and best practices for incorporating real-world financial experiences into their curricula. Attendees learned how to create impactful learning opportunities that align with the learning pyramid, increase retention, and meet students where they are in their financial journeys.
